The famous Rotary Tawa Bulletin

A hallo from the president

As we're now into October, only 2 words from me.

Thank you.

(Well, 2 words plus a few.)

Thank you for being a club full of surprises, commitment, generosity, and aroha.

One of the things I've come to appreciate most about Rotary Tawa is that you never quite know what will happen next. Time and again, this club steps up, supports one another, embraces new ideas, and gets behind the things that matter. That's something very special.

I genuinely love my role because of the people around me. Your friendship, enthusiasm, humour, and willingness to make a difference are what make this club such a pleasure to be part of.

As I look ahead to the coming weeks, I'm excited about what's in front of us. We have a calendar packed with incredible events, opportunities to serve, moments to celebrate, and countless chances to make a positive impact in our community.

Thank you for everything you do. You make this club what it is, and I can't wait to see what we'll achieve together next.

Let's keep shining, keep serving, and most importantly, keep spreading the love.

โค๏ธ Rotary at its best is people caring for people, and this club has that in abundance. โค๏ธ

What a spectacular fortnight it has been!

What an incredible two weeks it has been for Rotary Tawa.

Our Oktoberfest was a tremendous success, with a fantastic turnout of guests, friends, family, members from other clubs, and plenty of supporters from across the community.

The beer was flowing, the music was lively, and the food was nothing short of outstanding. Most importantly, the evening was filled with laughter, great conversations, and the wonderful sense of friendship and community that Rotary does so well.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, supported, and helped make the event such a memorable occasion. It was a brilliant celebration and a reminder of what can be achieved when people come together

If you're keen, we can always do it again next year. I'm certainly keen... though I suspect that won't surprise anyone!

Other clubs have asked for help organising one too! Asa always โ€“ more than happy to help! So, hereโ€™s to more celebrations!

The quiz night  a major success.

Our Quiz Master, Greg, was in magnificent form, keeping everyone entertained, challenged, and thoroughly engaged throughout the evening. Alongside him was John, diligently tracking scores with a level of concentration usually reserved for international sporting finals. Between Greg's questions and John's scorekeeping, the pair proved an unstoppable combination. In fact they were so great โ€“ it would make Eric Murray and Hamish Bond blush.

The evening was filled with plenty of laughter, a healthy dose of competitive spirit, and the usual debate over whether someone's "educated guess" was actually educated at all.

Most importantly, it was a wonderful opportunity to support our friends from WellFed, who continue to do incredible work in our community. Thanks to everyone's generosity, we raised $200 to support their efforts.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated, argued passionately over quiz answers, and helped make the evening such a great success.

Its been so successful, that we were absolutely keen to make this an annual event!

Spring Into Tawa is just around the corner, and we're looking for a few volunteers to help staff the Rotary stall and support the event.

This is once again a great opportunity to showcase Rotary, connect with the community, and highlight the work we do. We're also sharing our site with WellFed, helping promote the valuable contribution they make in our community.

While our stall only requires a small roster this year, the Spring Into Tawa organising team urgently needs volunteers, particularly for:

  • Set-up: 6:00am - 10:00am
  • Pack-down: 3:00pm - 6:00pm

If you're able to help at the Rotary stall, even for a short time, please let Michael know. If you'd like to support the wider event, please register here: https://tinyurl.com/5cmr86ec

Thank you for helping Rotary maintain a strong presence at one of Tawa's biggest community events.

Your support helps us connect with local residents, promote Rotary's work, and strengthen our impact in the community.

Pride in Work Awards

One of the most inspiring events on our Rotary calendar, the Pride in Work Awards on Tuesday 06 October @ 05.45 pm is to celebrate the people who quietly make a difference every day.

These are the team players, problem solvers, mentors, and unsung heroes who take genuine pride in what they do, support others, and help make their workplaces and communities better places to be.

Rotarians will be seated amongst the participating organisations, providing a great opportunity to build connections, strengthen relationships, and share the story of Rotary.

It is also a chance to showcase our new Commercial Membership option and how local businesses and professionals can engage with Rotary in flexible and meaningful ways.

We are looking foirward to celebrate outstanding people, hear some remarkable stories, and recognise those whose commitment, integrity, and service deserve to be acknowledged.

Meet the Candidates!

We're incredibly excited to be hosting our Meet the Candidates evening in Tawa on 13 October at 06.45 pm atteh Tawa Bowling club

This is a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from candidates representing a range of political parties, ask questions, and better understand their views on the issues that matter to our community.

Our confirmed candidates are:

  • Hon Barbara Edmonds (Labour Party)
  • Lan Pham (Green Party)
  • Mathew Evetts (National Party)
  • Jon Blackshaw (New Zealand First)
  • Robert Mason (The Opportunities Party (TOP))

We're also delighted to have a special guest moderator leading the discussion. Their identity is still under wraps for now, but trust me, this is someone you won't want to miss.

Events like this are an important way for our community to engage with democracy, hear different perspectives, and make informed decisions.

Please help us spread the word far and wide. Bring your friends, family, neighbours, workmates, and anyone interested in the future of our community. Let's fill the room and make this a vibrant, well-attended community discussion.

The more people we have in the room, the stronger the conversation will be. We look forward to seeing you there!

Lookinhg ahead

๐Ÿฅƒ Scottish Night 20 October!

Dust off your tartan, polish your dancing shoes, and get ready for a fantastic evening of Scottish fun, fellowship, and celebration. Our Scottish Night is just around the corner and promises plenty of laughs, great company, and perhaps a few dance moves that are best left off social media.

We're also still looking for a piper, so if you know someone who can bring the skirl of the bagpipes to Tawa, please let us know!

๐ŸŽ… Santa is on His Way

It may only be October, but Santa's comes to Tawa on 05 December.
Planning is already underway, and before we know it, the big man in red will once again be spreading Christmas cheer across our community.

๐Ÿ“‹ AGM and Club Leadership

Our AGM on 10 November is also approaching. This is our opportunity to celebrate what we've achieved, look ahead to the future, and elect the next generation of club leaders. If you've ever thought about stepping into a leadership role, now is the perfect time to start that conversation.

๐Ÿ’œ End Polio Now

๐Ÿ’œ End Polio Now - Bollywood Style!

We'll also be supporting Rotary's ongoing End Polio Now campaign through an Indian-inspired spectacular.

And trust me, this one is going to be BIG.

In fact, it has the potential to be the biggest Rotary Tawa Polio fundraiser we've seen in many years. Think bold colours, incredible food, vibrant entertainment, great fellowship, and all the energy and excitement of a true Bollywood-style celebration.

So start preparing your best outfits, bring your friends, and get ready for a night that promises to be larger than life.

Most importantly, every dollar raised will support Rotary's mission to eradicate polio worldwide. Rotary has helped reduce polio cases by more than 99%, but until the disease is eliminated everywhere, our work is not done.

Big. Bold. Bright. Bollywood.

This is one event you won't want to miss. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ’œโœจ

๐Ÿงก Standing Together Against Domestic Violence

In November, Rotary Tawa will join clubs from across Australasia in a campaign to raise awareness of domestic violence and family harm. This important initiative highlights Rotary's commitment to building safer, stronger, and more respectful communities.

More details will be shared soon, so watch this space.
